Lower oil consumption and reduce emissions

Hans Jensen Lubricators significantly reduce cylinder lube oil consumption and extend the lifetime of liners and rings. Our experience shows that we can cut engine lube oil consumption by 40 – 60% by switching from standard lubricators to a Hans Jensen lubrication system. For a mid-size engine, this amounts to approximately $50,000 per year in savings depending on market price.

An efficient lubrication solution reduces particle matter and CO2 emissions significantly. It is estimated that up to 50% of total particle emissions in shipping originate from cylinder oil.

A POTENTIAL RISK

EEXI THREATHENS CYLINDER CONDITION

The most common method for EEXI compliance is assumed to be Engine Power Limitation. This most likely means that you reduce the load of the engine by various measures.

When the load is reduced, the original cylinder lubrication system reduces the injection frequency of the cylinder oil into the combustions chamber. In other words, the engine will run on “old” oil, during an increased number of dry piston strokes.

The cylinder oil loses its beneficial properties fast in the liner, so it is crucial to inject “fresh” oil as often as possible. Our approach is therefore injection of oil in each stroke, which prevents a deteriorated cylinder condition even at reduced loads.

Case study: “K” Line Bulk Shipping

SLICES FEED RATE BY 55%

”K” Line Bulk Shipping bought the HJ Lubtronic 2.0 SIP system for a total of 10 vessels.

Feed rates of 0.5 g/kWh have been achieved since installation on both MC and ME engines, while also improving the cylinder condition.

GREEN TRANSITION

Green fuels require more flexible lubrication

All new fuel types have reduced lubricity that challenges standard lubrication principles. Therefore, the lack of lubricity must be compensated for by maintaining a thin and stabile oil film in order to prevent bore polishing and scuffing.

HJL technology injects fresh cylinder lube oil during each piston stroke and atomizes the spray of lube oil for optimal cylinder lubrication, regardless of fuel type and load.
